News from the Striders

20th September 2005
The latest Club Championship standings have been upload, Check out the Club Championship page. For the Ladies, with Jan being told to rest her double achilles injury for three months, looks like it should be Louise Hammond's championship. For the men, the leader Coach Kevin is too carrying an injury, giving Dave Sweet the opportunity to close the gap to eight points. Will Kevin recovery for the first of the last two events, the Southend 1oK?
Hope to have the Ingatestone results up by the weekend.
Don't forget your entries for Southend. You can also enter on line.

Some updates from Ingatestone. Sounds like Crispian had a great race judging by his race report I saw. Fourth place in a time of 27:06. Here is the unofficial order of the rest of the Striders. Crispian, Scott Henshaw, Mike Day, Alan Clarke, Steve Fulker, Steve Power, Kieron O'Doherty, Dave Sweet, Gerry O'Doherty and Andy Knill. There is more to follow! For the Ladies, unofficial order Sue Thake, Barbara Williams, Jane, Elaine Banville, Louise Hammond, Kathy McCrow. PB's for Dave Sweet, Steve Power (maybe!), Andy Knill, Louise Hammond and Sue Thake. Well done folks! At the risk of boring everyone, full results when I get them! Thanks to Coach Roy for pointing out the deliberate error! Southend is not the last Championship event, as there is one final handicap race to come at the beginning of December.

Well done to all the Striders that races at Ingatestone today. This was the second last race of the Club Championship. I don't have any results or news as I, and five other Striders were competing in the Blackwater Triathlon. As soon as I have any news / results I will post again.
The last Championship event is the Southend 10K. NOTE! You have until next Saturday, 24th September to get your postal entry in, or there is £2 extra to pay. Entry form is available from Striders Calendar.
Talking of the Blackwater Triathlon today, one of those Striders was Keith Walker. A little bird (well, his daughter Elaine) told me Keith is heading off this week on his World Championship tour. First stop is Newcastle. No, not in our fair isle, but in Australia, for the World Duathlon Championship next Sunday. From there, it is on to Honolulu two weeks later for the ITU Age Group Triathlon World Championships. Hard life for an 'Age Grouper'! Best of luck Keith for those two events.
It was wonderful to see one Strider in particular competing at Blackwater today. That was Wendy Reed. Great to see you racing again Wendy.
News has come through this week that photographers from Route 66 will be in attendance at the 10K. See the 10K page for details.

Further update from Jan this morning that entries are now up to eighty two for the 10K. Nineteen entries in five days! As stated below, get your entries in early to avoid disappointment!

3rd September 2005
Just over two months to go to the Striders 10K and as of last Tuesday, there were sixty three entries. There is a full list of entries now available on 10K page which will be updated on a regular basis. The event was full about two weeks before last year, so if you want to take part, get your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Next Saturday our coaches Kevin and Roy will be running a "Training with Jack Daniels" session. For those not 'in the know' this is nothing to do with the drink, but a Master Class on “Getting the most from your training”. It is aimed at ALL levels and ages. The session will be a mixture of Theory and Practical running. All you need will be your usual running kit, a warm top for in between the practicals and drinks. Start time is 9am at Hannakins, and will last about 2 - 3 hours. If you wish to attend please let Kevin now in advance. Busy time coming up for the Striders. Tomorrow is the Essex Way. Next Saturday is mentioned above. Next Sunday is the latest handicap from Lake Meadows, and the latest event in the Club Championship. Talking of the Club Championship, the next event after the handicap is hot on its heals with the Ingatestone 5 the following Sunday. And not too far after that is the next Club Championship with the Southend 10K two Sundays later.  If you thought after three club championship events you had time for a break, you are mistaken! The following Saturday, the Essex League Cross Country kicks off the Cross Country season.
