News from the Striders
24th September 2006
A sad good bye to two members who are heading off to Australia. First up is
Scott Henshaw. One of our leading runners. Next up, and the biggest surprise is
that Coach Roy Fleming is following Scott. Bit less planning in this one, but
not sure if we will see him back. Good luck Scott and Roy from everyone at
Striders. Four Striders appeared at the St. Lukes 5km this afternoon. Andy
Coleman lead for most of the race until he was pushed in third place in the last
kilometre. Nice race around the park. I would recommend it, especially if it
became a morning start. Dates and venues for the Sunday Cross Country are now
up on the website. Check out the Cross Country page and look for the South
Essex Sunday link. Don't forget your Southend entries.

A hot humid day was the weather that greeted the Striders for the latest Club
Championship event. That did not deter Chrispian who came home first across
this undulating 5 mile course. Coaching Kevin came in fourth vet in his age
group. And the webmaster followed his truimph of last week with a PB by over a
minute. I had a chat with coach Kevin at the end of Ingatestone. He was telling
me about the previous day when he raced ralays for Luton. He had a successful
day in the B team. So much so, he is in the A team next week with some
International runners. Well done Coach. Don't forget the next Club Championship
event is three weeks away with the southend 10K. Remember NO ENTRIES ON THE
DAY.
10th September 2006
Every dog has his day! And it was mind today! Having not started a club
handicap this year I had a generous handicap time and made the most of it
coming home first (To be confirmed). Something to tell the Grandchildren about.
I think the kids are sick of me already. Don't forget the next Club
Championship event next week with the Ingatestone 5. Then consider getting your
entries in for the next Club Championship after that, the Southend 10K. No
entries on the day for this one.
4th September 2006
With holidays over, I hope to make a more regular update to the newspage on the
website. Can't get any quiter!!! A busy period coming up for Club Championship
events over the next few weeks. Starting next Sunday at Lake Meadows, the
Starters gun goes at 8.30am on the third Club Handicap of the year. This is
followed the week after by the Ingatestone 5. This has an 11am start in the
centre of Ingatestone. Entry forms are available on the website. We then have a
two week break before the next event which is the Southend 10K on the 8th
October with a start time of 10.30am. Unlike previous years PLEASE NOTE - NO
ENTRIES ON THE DAY. Entry forms are available or you can enter on line
although I am told this method is a bit expensive! Between Ingatestone and Southend, something
to keep to you ticking over in a good cause is the St. Luke's 5km Charity run
at Gloucester Park. At part of the twenty year celebration, there will be a
Treasure Hunt from Hannakins Farm this coming Sunday afternoon at 2pm. See
coach Kevin for details. There will be a 'Gait Clinic' at Intersport in the
High Street this Friday if you would like to get your feet kitted with the
correct trainers for for feet and running style.
