News 7th May 2007
The Striders AGM takes place
Thursday May 17th at 8.00 from the Visitor Centre in Norsey Woods. We will have
the usual run first at 7.00, but from the Visitor Centre..
NOTE!. There will be no meeting at Hannakins on this Thursday
There will be a proposal on the table to increase the subs by £1 in all the
membership categories, and this will be voted on in the evening. All of the
Committee are seeking re-election to their existing posts, but if anyone of you
feel you would like to do one of the roles then please let me know in advance,
and this/these will position/s will be voted on during the election of the
offices, that Brian Hughes our President will be presiding over.
In addition the Committee feel that there is an additional role for someone to
become our England Athletics Co-ordinator. With all the changes currently
taking place within the Governing Body, there is the potential there to access
Grant / Funding money to help pay for Coaching Courses, Equipment, Improvements
etc. We would like this person to be the contact that gets sent all the
information I currently receive from England Athletics, keep the Committee
informed of what the changes are, how they affect grass roots clubs and
co-ordinate the Affiliation Fees. This nicely leads me into a final point for
the moment.England Athletics will be charging each club a £50 Affiliation Fee,
and then each "Competing" member within the club has to pay an
additional £3 for 2007/8 increasing to £5 for 2008/9 to England Athletics, if
they are going to compete in races. If you do not intend to take part in races
you will not have to pay this extra levy. But if you don't pay and choose to
then race, you will have to race as an unattached runner and pay the additional
£2's on enter races. This is all very new to us, and will be discussed at the
AGM, but in the meantime I strongly advise you to go onto the England
Athletics website eastion region which is our region site and understand
what you can about the scheme. Also click here for a
document that will give more details about the proposal.
